PennyMac stopped working (2024)

Has anyone experienced the issue of being able to add PennyMac as an account, successfully inputting your PennyMac username and password, and receiving multiple requests to enter the two-factor verification code when prompted in Quicken, only to go into an endless loop of this until it ultimately errors out?

I can already hear PennyMac blaming Quicken, and vice-versa. MFA is required (email, SMS text, or Google Authenticator codes), and it does not appear to be any way to disable this.

Below is the transcript from my discussion with PennyMac regarding the issue I had. You'll need to start from the bottom.

After waiting a week or so, after backing up, I deleted my PennyMac account from Quicken and readded it. Daily updates work fine now. I do not recall that it queried me for MFA tokens when readding it to Quicken.

Hello [redacted],

Unfortunately, the Quicken aggregator does not allow for our 2-Factor authentication process within our security features, which is designed to protect you as our customer. Because your security is important to us, this is not something we foresee changing in the future.

Thank you, Jaimie

Ahhh, there it is. The proverbial slough-off of responsibility by blaming a third party.

Interesting that your "IT" department says you only support Mint while Quicken continues, to this day, to work fine with PennyMac.

Re: Loan #[redacted]

Hello,

Our IT came back advising that at this time, we only support Mint. I was also advised to inform you to contact your third party application provider for any error messages that you are receiving. I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this matter may have caused you.

Thank you,

Ana

Re: Loan #[redacted]

While they are reviewing this, I thought you might be interested to know that I removed my PennyMac account from Quicken then recreated it and connected to PennyMac. Did this about a week ago. Updates from PennyMac are working successfully every day since then.

Why did you say that PennyMac is only compatible with Mint? Is there PennyMac documentation you were referring to which says this?

Re: Loan #[redacted]

Can you please explain why I have been using Quicken with PennyMac successfully since October 2020 with no issues?

Re: Loan #[redacted]

Hi [redacted],

Thanks for your reply and our apologies for the previous response. Unfortunately, PennyMac is not compatible with any of the 3rd party financial tools with the exception of Mint.

We hope this clears things up.

Regards,

Sandra

Re: Loan #[redacted]

I fully understand TFA but your response is talking about Mint. Nowhere have I mentioned that I'm using Mint.

Please re-read my original message. I AM USING QUICKEN.

Hello,

I apologize for the previous response. Unfortunately, the Quicken aggregator does not allow for our 2-Factor authentication process within our security features, which is designed to protect you as our customer. Because your security is important to us, this is not something we foresee changing in the future. However, to be able to add your loan to your financial aggregator Mint; you will need to successfully complete a 2 factor authentication process with them directly first to link your PennyMac account. Should you have any further issues with pairing your loan with Mint, please reach out to their customer service directly.

Thank you,

Ana

Re: Loan #[redacted]

This issue has nothing to do with Internet browsers. It is an issue with PennyMac's system supporting integration with Quicken.

If you are unfamiliar with Quicken, please escalate this to an agent who can help me with the issue.

Thanks.

Re: Loan #[redacted]

Since initiating our loan I have had my PennyMac account connected to Quicken. In the last week or two, I'm unable to download PennyMac updates with Quicken. Is PennyMac having issues with their Quicken servers/infrastructure?
