Cork have booked their place in the All-Ireland final after beating Limerick in Croke Park in the All-Ireland semi-final. The Rebels will now meet Clare in the Croker decider. An incredible, intense battle between the two sides only seemed to dip slightly on the hour for two minutes as both sides slugged it out, with Cork winning on a scoreline of 1-28 to 0-29. Limerick shot an uncharacteristically large number of wides on a wind-free day with Cork capitalising by working hard to notch a second win of the season over the Treaty County. John Kiely’s side warmed up as the game went on and were motoring towards the end of the first half after being second best for most of the 35. Everyone expected Limerick to do their usual third and fourth quarter gear-shift, but it was the Rebels who ramped things up with 10 points scored from the 35th minute to 47th minute compared to Limerick’s three points. Limerick’s wide count was far higher than usual but they were still pushing Cork to narrow the gap to two in the final few minutes. Speaking afterwards, a magnanimous Pat Ryan, Cork’s manager, said: ‘What a team [Limerick] have been for the last seven, eight years. They’re driving the standards, we’re all trying to catch up with them. ‘They’ve been brilliant champions and they’ve given great joy to Limerick and fair play to them. Here’s why TJ Reid may have played his last game for Kilkenny ‘We thought they were going to come back and bate us, like they do everyone! No but look our fellas stuck in there and really ground it out. A couple of lads came on and made a bit of difference.’ Today's top videos
